Sounds great! If it's ok, would you give a short breakdown of the sources and process for this mix? Or is it trade secrets ? I think it's interesting to hear how you guys work.

Thanks man, sure, as a goal was to recreate og but with improvements of mix and overall quality there was a several steps:
1 I took original source of the sample - Tenderness by Walter Beasley, sampled the main part of the sample and guitar from another part of the track, to sample the guitar I had to cut it using ai stem splitter, there are many of them available
2 match speed/pitch of the sampled parts with OG track
3 sampled drum part from the retail version, it cuts the same way using ai splitter but you need to find a right spot if you want it sound without artifacts
4 rearrange drum line pattern and tempo to align with samples above
5 cut and sample bass parts from the “server” version of still I rise, same approach as above
6 make the loops of everything above
7 extract acapella from catalogue dat OG version using ai splitter, it’s initially sounds weird on pac verse I needed to manually re-assemble and tweak it to sound right then match it on tempo with a bit
8 mix and master in Logic Pro; I also using audacity for precise cuts and looping process before logic

                ps
if you are new to mixing it won’t be an easy walk, in this case you I’d recommend you to download some master reels available to see and understand the logics of it and try to make your own mixes of it, if you mixed before, it’s irrelevant

Does anyone else not think the Big Syke samples were only there to placeholder the chorus in a premix? Could you make a version without them? Or the retail chorus instead as well?

Thanks, interesting! For me, I don't think I'll ever get around to mastering making music. I've always dabbled with different instruments and software but never stuck to anything long enough to be good at it.

If they ever dropped the original version on an album this is how I feel like it would’ve come out.

Definitely my favorite mix of the song yet.

Jay got another one that samples This Life I Lead as well, and another one that samples Um Dumpin. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was on the forums back in the day, or still is lol
