  • LG's 5.5" Optimus G Pro is Coming to the US

The much bigger phone will debut at MWC next week.

Just in the nick of time for a grand debut at Mobile World Congress next week, LG announced this morning that the successor to their hit Optimus G — the Optimus G Pro — will roll out to North America sometime during Q2. With more than a million Optimus G phones sold since its debut in September of 2012, LG has already promised users that many beloved features (and a few new ones) will be available once the Optimus G Pro hits stores sometime in spring.

Riding the wave of the big smartphone trend this year, the Optimus G Pro boasts a 5.5-inch display, jacked up more than half an inch than its forebear in the screen real estate department and claiming the title as the biggest LG phone in their catalog. But don't worry about sacrifices to resolution — LG promised a full HD display boasting 1,920 by 1,080 pixels and 400 ppi. The phone's guts have also received an update, featuring a 1.7 GHz quad-core Snap Dragon processor, 2GB of RAM and a welcome 32GB of storage. The cameras are also suped-up, with a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with HD recording capabilities and a respectable 2.1 megapixel front-facing camera for chatting and consistency in the phones "Dual Recording" feature — allowing users to use the front and rear cameras for simultaneous recording.

The phone will run on Android 4.1.2 Jellybean and feature a lot of Optimus G's best-loved features. LG has promised the Optimus G Pro will feature QSlide, which allows users to view two screens at once, and LiveZooming, which helps zoom in on phone features up to 5 times the normal size. New features include an ability to create 360-degree panoramas and the aforementioned picture in picture recording abilities.

Rumblings of the Optimus G Pro's US debut started in January, but LG now confirms that roll-out will occur in Q2 — beginning with Japan and rolling out to North Korea and the US after. Can't wait to get your hands on the mega-phone? LG will the Optimus G Pro at their brand's Mobile World Congress booth in Hall 3.

wow another S3 lookalike LG phone.. I'm still using Optimus 2x (the first dual core phone), it's still fast and shit, but I wouldn't buy another LG (maybe Nexus 4).
