  • 3DS, PSP Dominate Japan While Vita Still Struggles

As always, Japanese firm Media Create has released its weekly sales data. This week's trove of information covers the week from April 9th through April 15th, and has been translated by Andriasang.

The big winner yet again was Nintendo 3DS, which sold over 63,000 more units this week. PlayStation Vita continues to struggle, having pushed only 8,250 units, while PSP, the handheld it's supposed to be replacing, sold 13,166 units. Here's the complete hardware sales picture:

    1.) Nintendo 3DS - 63,796
    2.) PlayStation 3 - 17,765
    3.) PlayStation Portable - 13,166
    4.) PlayStation Vita - 8,250
    5.) Nintendo Wii - 6,837
    6.) Microsoft Xbox 360 - 1,373
In terms of software, the best-selling game for a second week in a row is 2nd Super Robot Wars Z Saisei Volume on PSP. You'll notice that lots of older games have crept back onto the list in lieu of any new, strong releases.

Overall, the Nintendo 3DS accounted for 8 games on the top 20 list, with PSP accounting for six, the Nintendo Wii holding three spots, the PlayStation 3 holding two and the Nintendo DS getting a lone position. No games for PlayStation Vita or Xbox 360 charted.

Because the Vita is pretty expensive till the other handhelds. Will change in a few months soon.

Plus there not alot AAA titles on vita yet.

All new consoles/handhelds dont sell superb in the first months/weeks after their release. Mostly because of the hella high prices.

When Monster Hunter is released for the Vita then the sales will sky rocket. Japan is crazy for Monster Hunter.
