  • Cleveland Cavaliers Win NBA Draft Lottery For #1 Pick

Just before the Spurs defeated the Grizzles in an OT win on Tuesday (May 21), the NBA held the Draft Lottery, in which Nick Gilbert and the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the odds to get the #1 pick in the June 27th draft.

It was the second time in three years that the Cavs got the #1 overall pick. After getting the pick in 2011, the Cavs used it to take eventual "Rookie of the Year" Kyrie Irving.

"Kyrie is a hell of a player ... but this also felt almost as good," Gilbert said. "That was the first time. This is the second time, but man does it feel good to get the first pick this last time. Get that last player to give us a push."

The Orlando Magic landed at the #2 spot, while the Washington Wizards vaulted from the #8 spot to third.

The potential #1 pick this year is Kentucky freshman Nerlens Noel, who many believe could be a nice addition for the Cavs once he's recovered from a torn ACL -- if they keep the pick. Additionally, the Cavs have #19, 31 and 33 for new coach Mike Brown, who they rehired after firing Byron Scott following a 24-58 season.
