  • Electronic music and Hip-Hip? Mat Zo & Chuck D Team Up

Mat Zo is a lucky man. The British producer (who now lives in Los Angeles) had been working on "Pyramid Scheme" for almost two years, switching up the hard-hitting electro track in big ways and shaping it over multiple stages – including sampling Public Enemy's "Can I Get a Witness," for which clearing the rights was a prolonged process. But Public Enemy's Chuck D stepped in himself, and instead of just securing the rights, Zo suddenly found one of his heroes recording vocals on his track.

"I'm a massive hip-hop fan, so this was a big moment for me. I'd always wanted to work with a great hip-hop artist, and Chuck D is definitely one of the greatest," Zo tells Rolling Stone. "A lot of other MCs got jaded and starting doing commercial crap about getting wasted on bottle service at some ritzy Vegas club, while Chuck D is one of the few who stuck to their principles."

"Pyramid Scheme" will be out August 13th on Astralwerks/Anjunabeats. Astralwerks celebrates its 20th anniversary today.
