  • Guillermo del Toro Eyeing His Dr. "Frankenstein"?

Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” is hotter than ever, but that doesn’t mean all 100 (exaggeration) adaptations will make it to theaters. Lionsgate has their I, Frankenstein, starring Aaron Eckhart and Bill Nighy, hitting Comic-Con for a January debut. Then there’s Fox, who is now in pre-production on a Max Landis-scripted version that will star The Woman in Black‘s Daniel Radcliffe as the Hunchback. Oh, and don’t forget Dark Sky’s Frankenstein’s Army, out this month.

Now that Guillermo del Toro is set to release Pacific Rim this weekend, it’s looking like his next “go” production will be Crimson Peak – but which of his thousands of projects will go after that?

According to the Daily Telegraph, he’s thinking more and more about his “Frankenstein”, which has already cast Doug Jones in the lead role. They’ve been doing some screen tests with him while he releases one movie and preps another, yet it sounds like del Toro is quite focused on building the legendary creature’s latest tale. The magazine says that del Toro is rumored to have cast Crimson Peak star Benedict Cumberbatch, pictured, for one of the lead roles, presumably Dr. Frankenstein.

We’ll update you as we learn more. Pacific Rim hits theaters Friday.
