Spielberg will produce the remake of the classic novel.
DreamWorks is now in talks with author John Steinbeck's estate to develop a new version of his classic novel The Grapes of Wrath.
Deadline reports that Steven Spielberg is also interested in the project and has scooped it off the table over other bidders. While Spielberg is rumored to be eying the director's chair for this one, DreamWorks has "definitively" said that he is only interested in producing.
The Great Depression-era novel was famously adapted into a film by John Ford in 1940, and the picture won two Oscars out of the seven nominations.
