You mean "Google", "Yahoo! Slurp", etc...? If it's the case, they are bots, automatic things who collect informations from the forum (something along these lines). If not, never saw any member with the grey color.

there are 3 usergroups built into vBulletin that use a shade of grey on the currently online users field. they are:

Users Awaiting Email Confirmation - these are users who have signed up, but have not yet confirmed their email address. When signing up initially, an email is sent to the address you signed up with. There is a link in the email that must be clicked to confirm the email. This is to prevent spammers/auto bots from signing up.

Users Awaiting Moderation - these are users who have received too many infractions/had to many reported posts, or that are flagged by the site for multiple other reasons. they are placed in this usergroup, and an email/PM is sent to the administrators, explaining why the user was put into this group. the administrator then decides whether to approve the user for posting again.

Unregistered/Not Logged In (Guests) - users who browse the site but are not logged in are labeled as "guests" when looking at the Who's Online page. "Spiders" (search engine auto bot's) also appear this color, since they are not actually logged into the vBulletin system.
