  • Max Payne - 15 Years Of Pain (Polygon)

A history on the Max Payne series. It's been 15 years since the original.

Haven't gotten around to playing the 3rd one yet but the first 2 are classics. Some of the best story, music & atmosphere in those games. Loved the film noir vibe.

I felt the third wasn't as good as the first two. It's still a good game. This makes me want to play them again.

The 1st two games were amazing..

Still have them on my pc.

The third one was ok, but did not move me like the 1st two games..

I remember when this first came out. I don't think I played it more than a little at a friends house. Couldn't he slow time down and do these dive attacks and have a dog attack?

That smug look on his face in the first game made me mad

It seems like you're thinking of Dead To Rights, not Max Payne.

He could indeed "slow time" and dive though. It was called bullet time. I wouldn't think of it as Max slowing down time. From his point of view, time keeps moving at the same pace it always has. It's you, controlling him, who gets to watch his world in slow motion. I dunno, there is nothing in the game that suggests time actually slows down, just thought that was an important distinction to make :P

I didn't try the third one yet though I own it. From the looks of it it doesn't look like it'll feel like Max Payne. Yes, I just wrote that sentence. Too much Sun. What makes Max Payne is the vibe and they killed it, it seems, so I haven't been bothered to try it out yet.

I enjoyed part 3. The memories are like Max Payne 1 & 2 ...dark vibe.
